Scott Davidson – Langley Thunder's New Captain

As a freshman studying Kinesiology at the University of Manitoba, Scott made an important discovery – about himself.

“I realized that – more than anything – I wanted to play lacrosse and to go anywhere and everywhere it would take me,” says the focused 21 year-old captain of the Langley Thunder.

Raised in a close family that taught him,’ if you believe in it, go for it’. Scott set out.

He wrote to Junior A clubs and won a tryout with the Victoria Jr. Shamrocks in 2007. He made the team but an injury curtailed his career on the Island.

He made his way to the mainland and to the captaincy of this year’s Langley Thunder.

“My dream has always been to get to the next level in lacrosse,” Scott says, acknowledging that the big prize would be a shot at the NLL and that he’s eligible for the draft later this year.

But, where does the love of lacrosse come from in hockey-crazed Winnipeg?

“I’m not really sure,” says Davidson, “but I’ve known since I was very young that I wanted to play. I love the game. I think it’s more challenging than hockey and takes more skill. Hockey is a perimeter game, but in lacrosse there’s more opportunity to cut into heavy traffic in front of the goal.”

And Davidson doesn’t mind mixing it up.

”I don’t really mind the odd shot from behind.” he says. ”It reminds me I have to run faster.”

His enthusiasm for the game easily translates to enthusiasm for the Thunder and his teammates. As captain, Scott says his role is to provide leadership off the floor as well as on, and it’s a job he takes seriously. He’s prepared to deal with dissension or lack of enthusiasm.

“But”, he says. ”There hasn’t been any. The atmosphere in the dressing room with these guys is really fantastic. Everyone is supportive and everyone gets along super-super well.”

Meantime, with supportive parents back home and an eye on a future in higher levels of lacrosse, Captain Scott Davidson is taking to the floor with the Thunder – and taking charge.
