Thunder Drop a Close Contest with Nanaimo
The Langley Jr Thunder lost a close game to the Nanaimo Timbermen 8-6 at the Langley Events Centre Saturday afternoon.
Coming off two outstanding performances – featuring several new faces – the Thunder combined short periods of smooth play with longer intervals where the play was ragged and undisciplined.
During the better moments, Langley showed the kind of offensive strength that got them to within one goal of defeating powerhouse Coquitlam. However, against Nanaimo, the passes went wide or were intercepted and the shots hit the posts.
Nanaimo’s defense frustrated the Thunder repeatedly and the Islanders offense finished with a shots-on-goal advantage of 49 to 28.
In an area where the Thunder have struggled so far this year, Langley’s Devin Wilson was credited with winning an impressive 11 of his 17 faceoffs against three different Timbermen.
Langley was assessed 17 penalty minutes while Nanaimo was handed 26 minutes.
The most significant moments of the afternoon may have followed the game, when the Thunder and coaches met for almost half an hour before emerging – appearing subdued and…determined.
The Langley Thunder’s next home game is Thursday, May 28th at 7:30 when they’ll host the New Westminster Salmonbellies.

Mitch Dibblee, 2 goals, 1 assist
