LANGLEY JUNIOR A THUNDER PLANNING UNDERWAY
There'll be a new look for the 2010 Langley Jr. Thunder - younger, fitter, faster and sporting new uniforms, too. Ambitious plans are being drafted now for the 2010 season.
Right now it's fitness that tops Coach Rey Comeault's agenda.
“We're planning some professionally directed pre-season personal training sessions”, Comeault reports as he looks over his plans for the next season. “We want the guys to be at peak fitness when the season starts in April.”
Looking at roster holes created by players who have turned 21, Comeault says the greatest need is on defense. But General Manager Brock Rose, President Joe Willmott and Coach Comeault have been planning a roster that will include some of the 2009 standouts, plus some talented intermediates and probably a few imports.
Brock Rose says the 2010 team will be younger and 'quite a bit stronger'.
“We're starting to reap the benefits of our successful midget drafting and more benefits from the excellent Stickmen program in Abbotsford”, said Rose.
And there's more.
Rose continues: "Our US College recruiting program is breaking out in new areas. We're hearing from more NCAA Division 1 lacrosse players who are exploring a summer of box lacrosse with us."
Comeault on the roster: “We can't be sure until we hold the tryouts. But I wouldn't be surprised to see some intermediate level players win spots of the junior team, even though they still have a year eligibility left as intermediates.”
Team president Joe Willmott is hoping to introduce the team and the game to more people and businesses in the Langley area.
“We had a lot of things to get happening in our first season in Langley, and we didn't have as much opportunity as I wanted to meet people and introduce our players and our game. I hope to fix that this season. We had really outstanding support from the minor lacrosse community in Langley and outstanding volunteer leadership and contributions from Anne Bull and Kelly Begg.” said Willmott.
“We think we have the organization together and now we're going to be inviting more people from the area to visit us - and enjoy the world's most exciting game,” Willmott added.
The Langley Jr. Thunder will be playing home games on Thursday nights for a 21 game season. Their opponents include: Victoria Shamrocks, Nanaimo Timbermen, Delta Islanders, Burnaby Lakers, New Westminster Salmonbellies, Coquitlam Adanacs, Port Coquitlam Saints.
For more information on the team please contact any of the club officials mentioned above who are listed in the Thunder Executive and Staff page in the TEAM button on this website.
The Jr. Thunder will be looking for young performers who would like to appear in between period presentations; booster club volunteers; corporate sponsors who want to be associated with the fine young men who play Junior lacrosse; parents of young lacrosse players and businesses that wish to advertise in the club publications.
