LANGLEY THUNDER DEMOS POLISHED POWERPLAY
With an impressive 8 point night, Sean Lundstrom and his linemates scored 7 consecutive power play goals in a losing cause as New Westminster came out ahead 15-10 in the first game of the season at Queen’s Park.
Lundstrom, Reegan Comeault, Nick Stone and Kevin LeMond fashioned quick, crisp and mature passing combinations with a man advantage for all 5 Thunder goals in the first period. They added Brandon Bull to sheet on one of two more second period power plays and then Lundstrom and Nick Kozuback assisted Bull on Langley’s first even-strength goal - which also tied the game at 8 apiece, about 5 minutes into the second period.
It was a tie that lasted for about two and a half minutes, as New Westminster began to pull away.
From the opening whistle, Langley’s defensive unit had struggled to work a zone defense against the bigger New Westminster club and were down two goals in 4 minutes. When they overcame their early stiffness and the zone began to react to Salmonbellies’ crease runs they were often able to turn aside the attacks.
Langley used both goalies: In the first period, Devon Winter made 14 saves, while giving up 8 goals. In the second and third, Keenan Lambright made 23 saves while giving up 7 goals.
A powerful New Westminster scoring punch from Mark Negrin, Brandon Goodwin, Jeff Sproule, Leif Mydske was too much for the
Thunder in the second half of the game.
The Thunder make a quick turnaround and return to the Langley Events Center to host Nanaimo on Thursday, May 6. It’s Langley Minor Lacrosse Night. And the game starts earlier – 7:00 pm.
