THUNDER POST FIRST - AND IMPRESSIVE – WIN

The Langley Thunder tossed in 11 goals while defeating Port Coquitlam – tossing the losing streak monkey off their back, in Jr. A lacrosse action, Tuesday night at the Langley Events Centre.

The Thunder victory featured several outstanding performances as they posted the 11-7 come-from-behind win.

In the first period, goalie Graham Chandler faced 17 shots – and allowed just two in. Over the evening, Chandler would deal with at least 50 shots, several from very close range.

In the second period, new comer Caldwell Rohrbach opened the Thunder scoring with a power play goal – and later added a shorthanded goal after an excellent demonstration of second effort. Rohrbach was felled in a melee over a loose ball, knocked it away from the rest of the players, scrambled to pick it up, regained his footing and raced to the crease where he leapt into position and tucked the ball behind the Poco netminder.

The rest of the scoring in the second period came from Max Weselowski, Reegan Comeault and Nick Stone.

The third period featured some brilliant passing attacks by the Thunder’s offensive unit, along with a mighty effort to stay cool as tensions rose and some rough play developed.

But a burst of four goals – including two power play markers – put the Thunder margin up to 9 – 4 before Poco was able to get back on the board. The Saints were able to add two more in the late stages of the game but it was not enough and the Thunder tasted victory for the first time this year.

The breadth of the emerging Thunder attack was reflected on the score sheet – as a total of 11 players were credited.
