by Trevor McManus

Langley, BC (June 23, 2017) The Langley Thunder (1-7) defeated the New Westminster Salmonbellies (4-4) on Thursday night, 8-6.

The teams played back-to-backs starting Wednesday night where the Thunder dropped a close decision 8-7 inside the Langley Events Centre.

Cue the rematch on Thursday. The game was tied 1-1 after the first twenty minutes of action, but it was a 5-goal second that had the Salmonbellies on top 6-5 heading into the final period. But JP Kealey, James Rahe and Justin Martin added third period goals, while Davide DiRuscio stopped all 19 shots in the final frame.

“After Wednesday, we looked at the game tape and I thought we were the better team on the floor and we brought that same work ethic on Thursday and did what we need to do,” said Head Coach Darcy Rhodes. “I am happy for the guys and the organization, everyone has been working hard and it is nice to get a win.”

James Rahe led the way for the offense, having a breakout night scoring 5 goals and 1 assist. The offensive output now places him second on the team in goals and points both behind JP Kealey.

“Next week, we have another set of back-to-backs but we need to focus on Burnaby for the game on Tuesday,” said Rhodes. “We are a better team today than we were last week and we are looking forward to getting back out there.”

For the second week in a row, the Thunder will have back-to-backs. Opening the week with a visit to Burnaby to take on the Lakers on Tuesday. The Thunder return home next Wednesday, June 28, 2017 when they host the Coquitlam Adanacs inside the Langley Events Centre at 7:45pm. Tickets to the game are available at the Langley Events Centre Box Office at 604-882-8800 or on the Langley Thunder website.
