Power play sparks Thunder to comeback win

Power-play goals 94 seconds apart helped the Langley Thunder rally for victory on Sunday in Nanaimo.

With the score tied at five, Connor Robinson put the Thunder ahead before Nathaniel Kozevnikov tallied an insurance marker 1:34 later as Langley won 7-5 at Nanaimo's Frank Crane Arena over the host Timbermen in Western Lacrosse Association action.

The Thunder improved to 5-7-0 and their 10 points have them tied for the fourth and final playoff spot.

Langley trailed 5-2 late in the middle frame before Chase Scanlan struck for a pair of goals 21 seconds apart to make it  5-4 heading into intermission. Jake Govett -- acquired by the Thunder earlier in the week -- tied the game early in the third period.

Robinson -- who opened the scoring -- finished with a pair of goals and three helpers for a five-point game while Scanlan had a hat trick and four points and was the game's first star.

Goaltender Caleb Khan earned second star honours following his 48-save performance in the Langley net. 

The Thunder went 3-for-4 with the man advantage.

For the Timbermen, Noah Manning scored a pair of goals with Ryan Sheridan and Jordan Neary each adding a goal and one assist. Devlin Shanahan made 52 saves for the Timbermen as Nanaimo was outshot 59-53.

Up next for the Thunder is a home-and-home series with the first-place Victoria Shamrocks (9-2-1, 19 points). The teams play on July 9 at Langley Events Centre (7:00pm) before the rematch on July 11 at Victoria's Q Centre.
