Thunder Drop OT Thriller

by Trevor McManus

Langley, BC (July 20, 2017) The Langley Thunder (3-13) lost a back and forth thriller to the Nanaimo Timbermen (5-9-1), 14-12 in overtime.

The Thunder found themselves down early, 7-4 after one, 10-8 after two, but it was in the third period when they finally took the lead for the first time in the game. Bryce Brochu had a pair, Dylan LaCroix added another but it was James Rahe who scored with a one-handed shovel to put the Thunder up 12-11 with less than five minutes to play. The Timbermen scored with less than a minute to play to tie the game and scored a pair in overtime to take the victory.

“I have been very impressed with the tenacity of the team,” said Head Coach Darcy Rhodes. “A lot of lesser teams would have quit but we don’t have that kind of mentality with this group.”

There are two games left in the season for the Langley Thunder. Their final home game inside Langley Events Centre will take place next Wednesday, July 26, 2017 against the Coquitlam Adanacs (5-8) at 7:45pm. Tickets to Wednesday’s game are available at the Langley Events Centre Box Office at 604-882-8800 or on the Langley Thunder website

The final game of the season will take place the following week when the Thunder travel to the swamp to take on the Burnaby Lakers (8-5-1) on August 1, 2017. That game can be seen on Play Full Screen.
