An overtime loss on Saturday night ended the Langley Thunder’s four-game point streak.

The Thunder fell 8-7 to the Coquitlam Adanacs at the Coquitlam Sports Centre, the second time this season the two teams were required to go beyond 60 minutes as they played to an 8-8 tie back on July 3

With an extra attacker on the floor during 3-on-3 sudden-death overtime, Tyler Kirkby scored the decisive goal at the 6:48 mark, giving the Adanacs the two points and possession of second place in the Western Lacrosse Association standings at 6-7-1 and 13 points. The Thunder have the same record as Coquitlam, but the Adanacs took the season series (2-0-1), which is the first tiebreaker.

Including that earlier draw with the Adanacs, Langley had gone 3-0-1 in their past four games before Saturday night’s setback.

The teams were tied at 3 after a period with the Thunder pulling ahead 6-4 with 20 minutes to play. Coquitlam came out in the third and clamped down defensively, allowing just a dozen shots and leading 7-6 before Connor Robinson forced overtime with 30 seconds to play.

Robert Church led the way offensively for Langley with a hand in all seven goals as he scored five times and set up the other two while Chase Scanlan finished with six assists. Clay Scanlan had the other Thunder goal. Robinson and Charles Scanlan had a pair of assists apiece.

Church and Chase Scanlan were the second and third stars, respectively, with Kirkby earning first star honours following his game-winning goal and four assists. Riley Isaacs (2-2) and Adam Noakes (2-1) both scored twice.

In goal, Aden Walsh made 47 saves on 55 shots for Langley while his counterpart Andrew Gallant stopped 38 of 45 shots. Entering week 9, they sit one-two in terms of total saves was Walsh has 580 saves and Gallant has 572.

Up next for the Thunder is a home game against the Nanaimo Timbermen on Wednesday, July 17 at 7:00pm at Langley Events Centre.
