Thunder rally falls short
It was a goal scorers’ delight on Sunday in Nanaimo, but in the end, it was the host Timbermen getting the best of the Langley Thunder.
The Timbermen scored the only five goals of the first period and extended the lead to 8-0 2:13 into the middle frame before Langley would finally find the back of the net. And that would spark the Thunder visitors as they cut the lead to two after 40 minutes and even pulled within a goal 23 seconds into the third. But a 4-0 Nanaimo run spelled the end of any comeback bids with the Timbermen holding on for the wild 16-13 victory in Western Lacrosse Association action.
The win improved Nanaimo to 3-5 while Langley fell to 2-5.
JP Kealey led the Thunder offence with four goals and six points while Aidan Milburn had a pair of goals and one helper. Andrew Garant (one goal, four assists) and Tyler Pace (one goal, two assists) also had multi-point games in the loss.
The Timbermen trio of Jon Phillips, Baden Boyenko and Brody Eastwood each registered hat tricks for the home side.
In goal, Jake Sundar came on in relief in the first period and stopped 21 of 29 shots for Langley.
Langley won’t have to wait long for another shot at Nanaimo as the two senior A squads meet at Langley Events Centre on Wednesday (June 20) at 7:30 p.m.
