Western Lacrosse Association releases playoff schedule

The Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) has released the schedule for the 2023 Playoffs, with the winner hosting the 2023 Mann Cup Canadian Sr. A Championship.

The Langley Thunder, Nanaimo Timbermen, New Westminster Salmonbellies, and Victoria Shamrocks have locked down playoff positions and get set for their round one, best-of-five semi-final matchups beginning Tuesday August 1.

The first-place New Westminster Salmonbellies (15-3) will face the fourth-place Victoria Shamrocks (10-7-1) in one series while the second-place Langley Thunder (14-4) battle the third-place Nanaimo Timbermen (12-6) in the other.

The winners of each semi-final series will advance to the WLA finals starting Wednesday, August 16 in a best-of-seven series to determine the WLA Champion. The WLA Champion will advance to the Mann Cup Championship against the eventual Major Series Lacrosse (MSL) champion from Ontario starting on Friday, September 8.

Of note, playoff overtime rules are in effect, meaning if a game is tied after regulation time, there will be a two-minute break, followed by a ten-minute overtime period.  If the game is still tied, there will be a five-minute intermission, followed by a twenty-minute sudden death overtime period.
