For the second straight game, the Langley Thunder could not withstand a second-period barrage, bringing an end to their season in the process.
Facing elimination on Friday night (Aug. 23) at The Q Centre in Victoria, the Thunder played a gritty first 25 minutes, leading the first-place Shamrocks 4-2 early in the middle period. But eight goals in less than eight minutes changed the trajectory of the game as Victoria clinched the Western Lacrosse Association championship with a 13-7 victory and 4-0 sweep in the best-of-seven WLA Finals.
Following that eight-goal run, the Shamrocks led 10-4 with a period to play before each team scored three times in the third.
Connor Robinson led the Thunder with three goals and six points while Chase Scanlan finished with five assists. Clay Scanlan (1-3), Nathaniel Kozevnikov (1-2), Charles Scanlan (1-1) and Bailey Vanichuk (1-0) each chipped in a goal.
Kyle Mooney (43 saves on 54 shots) and Caleb Khan (six saves on eight shots) both saw action in the Langley goal as the Thunder were outshot 62-40.
For Victoria, Jesse King (2-4), Clarke Petterson (2-2), Casey Wilson (2-2) and Marshal King (2-1) each had two-goal games and Chris Origlieri made 33 saves.
